2026-2027 Theme:
"What My Culture Means to Me"
WHAT IS REFLECTIONS?
Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition program that helps students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful not only in school, but in life.
Students in pre-K through grade 12 create original works of art in response to a theme and submit those entries to their local PTA. The 2026-2027 Reflections theme is “What My Culture Means to Me.”
ART CATEGORIES:
Students may enter in one (or more) of the available arts categories:
- Literature: works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories & lyrics.
- Music Composition: original musical composition, with or without words.
- Photography: color or black and white, included techniques: photogram, negative sandwich, and multiple exposure.
- Visual Arts: drawing, painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor & t-shirt paints, computer generated art, two-dimensional collage, printmaking, needlework & leather tooling.
- Film/Video: original works, with or without sound, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video/film.
- Choreography/Dance: originally choreographed dance composition.
Entries are judged on creative ability and interpretation of the theme.
While the primary focus of Reflections is a celebration of creativity through positive recognition, finalists from local PTAs will move on to their council PTA (if applicable). Finalists from council will then advance to the state round. Washington State PTA finalists who receive an “Outstanding Interpretation” award will advance to the National PTA round.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Young artists can get involved by contacting their local PTA leaders. The deadline to submit entries to your local PTA will vary by school, but is typically in late autumn.
The due date for local PTAs to submit advancing entries to Riverview PTSA Council is December 4, 2026 (8pm).
Local PTAs and councils may choose to accept physical or virtual entries. Only virtual submissions will be sent to the WSPTA level for judging.

Reflections Council Gala

In January 2026, we celebrated 95 student finalist entries representing local PTAs across the district. Of those, 24 Riverview PTSA Council finalists advanced to the state level of competition.

Awards!
At the WSPTA Convention in May, Riverview PTSA Council was awarded with the Silver Advocacy Award of Excellence!
At the June 23, 2020 Riverview School Board Meeting, Council was presented with the 2020 Community Service Award. This award recognizes partner groups who make a significant difference for students, and we are proud to support our Riverview students, staff and families, with a special focus on community mental health in the 2019-2020 year.
On May 17, 2019, Riverview Superintendent Dr. Anthony Smith and the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA Metro Region 110) honored Riverview PTSA Council with a Community Leadership Award. We are proud to partner with Riverview School District in our goal of the betterment of families for the benefit of children.
